Panhellenic Action Plan

In light of the Black Lives Matter movement and the many forms of racial injustice that have taken place for far too long in this country, Cal Poly Panhellenic created an action plan to dissolve systems of oppression and racism prevalent in our organizations. Below are the action items we created as well as updates on their implementation within our community.

1.Create a new position for the Panhellenic Executive Board titled Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

-Implemented Fall 2020.

2. Provide more digestible and continuously updated DEI resources to the Panhellenic community on our website and social media accounts including educational resources, service opportunities, ways to report bias and resources for those experiencing discrimination. Extensive educational and reporting resources added to PHA website.

-DEI Fridays on the PHA Instagram to share resources.

3. Create safe spaces (ie: Facebook groups because we are virtual) for BIPOC, disabled, and LGBTQ+ members of the Panhellenic community.

-Beginning in Fall 2020.

4. Supports the FSL office’s requirement of the completion of DEI and awareness trainings each year for all members, topics to include: New Members: racist and exclusive history of greek life, and changing the legacy moving forward. Active/Recruiting Members: microaggressions, exploring recruitment biases, personal identity and privilege. Recruitment Counselors: supporting BIPOC PNMs; noticing exclusive recruitment patterns, microaggressions, implicit biases, personal identity and privilege

-Anti-Racist workshop implemented prior to recruitment in Fall 2020 for all Recruitment Counselors & Officers.

5. Provide additional publicized and accessible scholarships to assist women in the community with the cost of membership dues.

-100% of recruitment fines will be going to Panhellenic scholarships.

6. Implement bi-quarterly Panhellenic diaglouges to cover Race, LGBTQ+, Disabilities, Mental Health and Physical Ability, Class/Socioeconomic Statuses, Gender/Power-Based Violence, Religion, and more.

-Planning in progress & expected to be implemented late Fall or early Winter 2021.

7. Discourage and offer less assistance with the submission of letters of recommendation for PNMs to Cal Poly Panhellenic chapters

-Panhellenic has removed letter of recommendation information from the website & will not assist with any questions related to submitting them.

8. Implement a new recruitment violation of “Inappropriate Conversation Targeting a PNM”, in which conversations that intend to offend or ostracize an individual because of their race, sexuality, gender expression, ability, socioeconomic status, or religious beliefs will result in an automatic meeting with the Panhellenic Advisor. If it continues to be an issue for chapters, the Panhellenic Advisor will alert their Headquarters and partner with the Panhellenic Advisor on how to address the continued targeting.

-Implemented Fall 2020.
