A Message From Kappa Alpha Theta’s president

Hi everyone!

We are the Zeta Theta chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta! Our organization was founded in Indiana in 1870, and our chapter was established at Cal Poly in 1989. Theta was built on the values of scholarship, service, leadership, personal excellence, and friendship, and we are so grateful to have created a long-lasting sisterhood on these ideals. Nationally, Kappa Alpha Theta supports Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) as our main philanthropy. This incredible organization helps connect youth in foster care to adult advocates that give them a constant support system in the midst of all the chaos of the foster system. We are so lucky to have a CASA right here in SLO, so all of our fundraising efforts go directly towards helping those in our community. Every quarter, we host an event to fundraise for CASA, including our annual cornhole tournament, Theta’s Backyard Toss, and our annual auction and dinner, Theta’s Gala for CASA. These events help us celebrate and connect to the greater Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo community, and are a core part of who we are as Thetas. In addition to our philanthropy events, we host sisterhood events every week, like arts and craft nights, movie nights, and house dinners, and quarterly date parties. Beyond our events, the true heart of Theta lies in the everyday moments; through the highs and lows, our authentic and close-knit sisterhood supports our members in everything they do. It is a privilege to lead and grow in this chapter, and we can't wait to meet you all!

Best,

— President Sarah Brown

Scholarship Opportunites

Scholarships are a valuable resource to help ease the financial commitment of Panhellenic membership. A variety of options are available to support members with dues and related expenses, making sorority life more accessible and affordable.

Available Scholarship Opportunities:

  • Chapter Scholarships: Individual chapters offer scholarships, such as but not limited to need-based or merit-based scholarships to active members. These awards are funded through chapter fundraising efforts or alumni donations and are designed to directly offset member dues.

  • National Organization Scholarships: National sorority organizations often provide scholarships such as but not limited to, academic achievement, leadership involvement, and financial need. These awards may assist with chapter dues, housing costs, or overall educational expenses.

  • Panhellenic Scholarships: The Panhellenic Council offers campus-wide scholarships to members of any affiliated chapter. These scholarships typically recognize leadership, academic excellence, community involvement, and demonstrated financial need. Scholarships vary by quarter, visit our scholarship tab for more information.

Together, these opportunities help ensure that finances do not stand in the way of sisterhood, leadership development, and the full sorority experience.
